I'm not sure if I am posting this in the right area, but I feel I must "State my peace". First of all, I want to say that the AYSO Board, and especially the Regional Director, John Schneider, have done an excellent job this year and should be commended for their hard work and commitment to the young athletes in La Mirada.

This is my first year coaching a soccer team in the AYSO, and it just happens to be in both the GU10, as a head coach, and the BU14 division, as an assistant.

Let me just state my position: I disagree with scheduling night games for any division below a jr. high school level player, as well as the concept of doubleheader games strictly for "preperation" purposes. Again, I know I'm in the minority here with my comments, and obviously the games will be scheduled accordingly. I just needed to state my position.

FYI, I have been a coach for over twelve years in other areas of sport, as well as personal growth areas for young people. I do have some experience in these areas.

This is my first year of coaching soccer in La Mirada, and ultimately will also be my last. I'm sorry that it has to come to that, but it will be best for myself and the AYSO.

Thank you.

Coach Hunter,

I would appreciate more input regarding your position on night games and doubleheaders. This is improtant and needs to be surfaced and discussed. As a Region, we are continually growing and need to understand the different viewpoints before making decisions for our players. Being in the "minority" does not preclude you from having a position and sharing it with others. I can tell you there was a tremendous amount of discussion and from what I recall, your position was not one discussed. Any additional basis for your position is fruitful to the decision and should be incorporated into the process.

I see on the schedule page that Region 22 is considering moving night games to a later time. I went to post my vote as requested, but saw that there was no place to vote for NOT moving them to later times.

I am O.K. with 5:00 and even 6:30 games when needed. But I do not believe that my 12 year old, let alone my 8 year old (U10) should be playing at 7:30 or 8:00.

It seems you want to make accomodations for people to get to games on time, but not for those of us that value finishing homework and getting showers and to bed on time for school. I too am a working parent, but my children's schedule, sleep and health take priority.

I think that night games are okay, I do not like the idea of double headers for unger age groups. With weeknight games 6 & 7pm start times are fine. My children usally have most of thier home work finished by this time anyways

Should a coach be punished if they run pratices without their medical release forms. What about praticing with non Ayso players that leads to a kid getting seriously hurt?

What if, maybe, it might.
Man, just like i have to tell my children, you can't live in a world where you are afraid to step out of the house.
Yeah, a car can hit you, yeah a plane can fall on you, yeah a big earthquake can happen and you could fall down a giant crevice.
But don't live your life in fear of the what ifs in the world.

A coach should always carry his/her MR forms, but if a kids
parents are present you won't need them anyway.
So let's not get into the ways of old where board members thought of themselves as the gestapo. And would run onto a field demanding that so a so stop immediately and if they didn't the BM would call the cops.
God that was such a negative time.
And it bred such negative feeling amoung our parents and volunteers.

Hopefully people have learned that there is a quieter, qentler way to teach our coaches what we expect of them.

I have a child playing all-stars and area for a fall team and I am not happy with "requiring all players" to lease or purchase warm ups. Why is this necessary??? If you lease the warm-ups your child will fell left out and they are costly! Where does it say this is mandatory??? This is a volunteer organization! If I wanted warm-ups and overly expensive uniforms I would have my children in club!! I have never in all my years in AYSO heard such nonsense. Maybe the board members who have suggested these warm-ups do not see any issue with this but many parents do but say nothing just to make their child happy & not fell left out! If the region wants all these teams to wear the same warm-ups why don’t they just purchase them for the kids?? I mean the board has stated this is "mandatory" so why don’t they buy them? Whose idea was this anyways???

I agree, the region should offer the teams/kids the use of warm ups and uniforms at no cost, and if the parents want to buy them then they can. How much money does it cost a kid to become an all star or be on a team that advances. Why should a kid’s uniform come before really necessary expenses?

Wow, this is interesting.
NOTHING in the AYSO program can be manditory. Period. This is in the AYSO National Guidelines. (Which so far we are still a part of.)

One point, National doesn't let a region BUY AND GIVE SPECIAL UNIFORMS for just all-stars. In the AYSO eyes all-stars DO NOT get special treatment that the kids in the regular rec program gets.
This is good in the big picture.

In the past the region purchased the ALL-STAR uniforms and LOANED them to the players for a small deposit. When the regular all-star program ended with them losing in either AREA, SECTION or STATE or them winning STATE the uniforms were returned, minus the soxs, and the parents were refunded their deposit.
ANY OTHER ITEM (BAGS, SWEATS ETC)
are strictly voluntary. And if anybody tells you differently they are MISSINFORMED.

Of course maybe SOME parents and coaches got together and said otherwise, but again this is simply not true.

I could go on, but this is just the start.
Let's see who's listening.

Steve Thank you for your help. We were told that we did not have to purchase them but they were required to "loan" them??? Makes no sense?? This was done by a BOD member (not the RC)Maybe they thought this was a good idea but, it sucks!

If your kid is gonna stay with the All-Star team beyond the AYSO playoffs, in other words is gonna play with the team in tournmaments and/or spring select. Then it probably is a good idea to buy the extra stuff. They will come in handy and are a nice keepsake.
But if your child is more well-rounded and plays other sports during the soccer off-season then you really don't need all that extra baggage for just at a minimum 2 tournements and a maximum 4 tournaments. (1 down and the next one coming up next weekend.

So you, as a parent should decide what works for your family.
