AS A NATIONAL LEVEL COACH AND NATION LEVEL COACH TRAINER I WOULD LIKE TO START A BLOG ON COACHING/TRAINING.
AGAIN BLESS ALL YOUR SOULS FOR HELPING OUT. I HAVE SEEN SO MANY TRAINERS WORK SO VERY HARD BUT BECAUSE THEY HAVEN'T BEEN TRAINED CORRECTLY THEY ACCOMPLISH LITTLE -NOT YOUR FAULT. I HAVE SEEN TRAINING GO ON WERE KIDS STAND FOR OVER 3 MINUTE AT A TIME AND TOUCH THE BALL ONCE. AN OLD MYTH STATES THAT A KID WOULDN'T BECOME GOOD UNLESS THEY HAVE OVER 1,000,000 QUALITY TOUCHES AND BELIEVE IT OR NOT THAT IS SOMEWHAT TRUE. A GOOD TRAINING SESSION SHOULD HAVE A KIDS HAVE AT LEAST 2000 QUALITY TOUCHES PER SESSION.

I have been told that somewhere it is noted that we have a 2 quarter rule for the keepers. Can someone show me where it is written, I can’t find it anywhere.
Does that include all ages? What happens if the keeper want to play in the box the whole games because they want to become a great keeper someday. Or if you only have one keeper and no backup that day. Or one of keepers doesn't make the game and know you have to use a "3RD" keeper. I agree that you shouldn't force one player to keep all the time but they may be situations that they may need to, after-all games are important because we keep score and we don’t balance teams with keepers to make sure each teams has 3 qualified keepers.

thx

Not sure if this is the right spot but wanted to know about the schedule..it shows us playing in only 8 games but we have 15 teams in our division..thanks Steve

Goalkeeper Policy: In U8 only, coaches are required to rotate DOES THIS MEAN WE CAN PLAY ONE KEEPER FOR 3 QUARTERS?
GKs. In order to develop a backup GK in the event of injury or non-attendance, any one GK may only play in goal for 2 quarters per game. The referee will enforce this and it is only for U8. In other divisions, coaches are asked to be sensitive to the desires of the individual player when deciding how many quarters he will play as goalkeeper

IM SORRY...HERE IS THE POLISY ON THE FRONT OF THE AYSO 22 PAGE

Goalkeeper Policy: In U8 only, coaches are required to rotate GKs. In order to develop a backup GK in the event of injury or non-attendance, any one GK may only play in goal for 2 quarters per game. SO DOES THIS MEAN WE CAN KEEP OUR GK WHO WOSH TO STAY IN GOAL IN GOAL???

Gary L. Negrete said...

In U08, a player may play in the goal as the GK for 2 of the 4 quarters each game. The third quater they must play in the field (not as GK) and the fourth quarter they can either sit out (substitute) or play in the field (not as GK). The coach may choose which two of the four quarters the player will be GK during the game.

All other divisions, a player may play in goal for the entire game.

the allstar selection meeting can't be done until after the "Player Evaluations due 11/10" are done

Bob Day said...

In my opinion, the coaches should go over their completed player evaluations at the All Star meeting. It seems that the problem every year is that the coaches aren't on the same page when rating their players. The best player on the worst team usually gets close to the same rating as the best player on the top team, even if there is a huge difference in skill level. There are so many intangibles that are involved when deciding the top players that this is why teams are always so lopsided. If the coaches can at least rate the top 2 dozen players accordingly, then they will be distributed among all teams the following year. As a coach, when you get your team at the beginning of each season, you need to have a couple players to build the team around. Sure, building up the skill of all players is important, but every team needs leadership and needs to have one or two top players to be competitive. The team(s) at the bottom of the league are usually there because they don't have a top line player. This happens because they got a top "rated" player from a coach who didn't rate his player accurately. I actually had a coach tell me last year that he rated his best player low because he didn't want her to have to carry her team again. These errors can usually be fixed if all coaches discuss at least the top players in the league.

Mr Day, you are sooo right.
if the All-Star picks have already been done, then they were NOT done with the future in mind. The all-star selection is when all coaches are taught how to rate players so that NEXT season's team balancing is fair as humanly possible. So a teams entire player ratings must be present. I know the All-Star coaches have been picked, but have the players also been picked.
Were the player ratings verbally given at the all-star selection meetings?
I have not seen anywhere, as to what procedure was used.

But what I am concerned about is how all the team coaches could really decided individually after only having played, on average, 4 games. With 3 Saturday's of no games.

If only the all-star coaches have been picked then no problem. Although I am curious as to what procedure will be used to pick the all-stars.

On a different topic...does anyone know if they turn the lights on at Los Coyotes on Fridays? I was there with my team a few weeks ago and they were NOT turned on. Is that usually the case? Is Behringer the only place where we can practice Fridays?

BOB DAVIS said...

Lights are not on at Behringer either, or they haven't bveen the past two weeks.

As far as i know the kids haven't been selected yet, I am an all star coach and know nothing but the meeting is being scheduled. Bsck in the day all the coaches got together and rated and agreeded on every players rating at the all star meeting, with focus on the top 4-5 players on per team I certainly hope that is still being done.

BOB DAVIS said...

Just thought I'd share this having kids dribble without focus on the proper technique isn't doing them any-good MAKE SURE THAT YOU FOCUS ON THE BASIC'S-PROPER TECHNIQUE using the proper part of the foot is important. Running around the field dribbling just to dribble isn't making them better dribbler's.

I found out this weekend that we -coaches- don't get to review and discuss all the team player evaluations for each team in out brackets. I strongly disagree with this, having the correct player evaluations for all players are VERY important. I have several examples as to why this needs to be done for the next year teams. It isn't the top players that normally make the difference it is the middle and bottom players we all know who the top players are so they are normally known and so rated. Some examples are like my GU14 team I have three players that are rated 1.9 and they got most of those points because of there behavior, but lets say another coach has the same situation and is more good hearted rates them all 3.9 - and this happens- so now they would be rated in the middle of the pack for next year, also this coach probably rates their players overall 1 to 2 points higher then everyone else, this does cause big problems in team balencing. At the all star meeting -while still fresh in everyone mind- this can be looked at and corrected like it has been done several times in the past and it worked out good back then, so we won't start next year off with teams un-balanced right off the bat. The new coaches and coaches moving up won't know the difference and have to go by what is shown. Balancing team will never be perfect but with this change you can make it better, also no reason to wait until next year to do this because we can do it now and be better off for next year.
Also when player are added after team balencing those player rating must be known to keep teams balenced.
Also I would like to see players experience listed on the Eval form because this is important.

Should a coach be punished if they run pratices without their medical release forms. What about praticing with non Ayso players that leads to a kid getting seriously hurt?

I have a child playing all-stars and area for a fall team and I am not happy with "requiring all players" to lease or purchase warm ups. Why is this necessary??? If you lease the warm-ups your child will fell left out and they are costly! Where does it say this is mandatory??? This is a volunteer organization! If I wanted warm-ups and overly expensive uniforms I would have my children in club!! I have never in all my years in AYSO heard such nonsense. Maybe the board members who have suggested these warm-ups do not see any issue with this but many parents do but say nothing just to make their child happy & not fell left out! If the region wants all these teams to wear the same warm-ups why don’t they just purchase them for the kids?? I mean the board has stated this is "mandatory" so why don’t they buy them? Whose idea was this anyways???

Steve M. Marquez said...

In the AYSO nothing can be manditory except of course equiptment that the ref checks for.

If you were told by anyone from the ALL-STAR team that buying the uniform or the other side stuff is MANDITORY then they are mis-informing you.

It was probably some MISGUIDED coaches or team parents who want everyone to look exactly the same.

In the past the uniform was LOANED to the all-star players and then returned, minus the soxs.

All the extra stuff was up to the team AND individual parents.

Due to AYSO National regulations I a pretty sure that these still apply.

soccer4life said...

Steve Thank you for your help. We were told that we did not have to purchase them but they were required to "loan" them??? Makes no sense?? This was done by a BOD member (not the RC)Maybe they thought this was a good idea but, it sucks!

The All-Star uniform (jersey, shorts and socks) is provided by the Region to the player at no additional cost.

For as long as I have been involved with the Region (many number of years - plus 20), the All-Star teams have "bought" warm-ups (and usually bags).

This year, the Region decided to ensure that every team (All-Star and Area) presented a unified image when they traveled for games representing La Mirada. The warm-up was selected and coordinated so that all teams would "purchase" the same one from the same vendor at the same cost (quantity discount). In addition, the Board wanted to ensure that every player was able to wear the warmup (since it cannot be mandatory to make anyone pay for it). In the past, there have been All-Star players who were not able to purchase the warm-up or the bag.The "Lease" program was therefore instituted. Although "lease" may be a misnomer since there is no cost to the player/parent as long as the suit is returned. Again, if the player desires a warmup, there is no cost for the use of it during the season as long as it is returned at the end of the season.

Finally, the warm-up is not mandatory for All-Stars. What was mandatory was that if an All-Star team chose to purchase warmups and bags( as is their normal practise), they were required to be the Adidas United Suit and the Adidas Copa Bag. For Area teams, the warm-up is NOT MANDATORY. Some teams have decided to get sweatshirts, some have decided to get nothing. Again, the Board was trying to make the warmup available to everyone at no cost.

In closing, for the 95% of the players in AYSO who will never play in club or in high school, the fact that they get a quality program (fields, uniforms, referees, coaches, playoffs, etc) is what is important. There is a minority of players who's teams make it to Area playoffs and an even smaller number who are selected for All-Stars. That leaves a majority of players who do not get to experience All-Stars or Area playoffs thoughout hteir AYSO careers (U05 thur U19). The only intent is to provide a quality program for everyone who registers at a reasonable cost.

I hope this helps.

Steve M. Marquez said...

Thanks Gary,
I think that explained everything!!
But what it goes down to is that each family can decide if they want to PURCHASE or just loan the uniforms.
As I said on another post that is following this same line.
Just because someone WANTS everyone to look the same doesn't mean everyone HAS TO.
The only thing that really matters is the uniform. Not the fluff.
Espcially to the ones who just love the game.

I did not realize there were still people posting on here. As a Team Mom for a BU10 Area team, I am happy to have the warmups available. As a Board Member I am proud that the warmups this season were available to both the All Stars and Area Teams at NO COST per player. No child is left out.

On our BU10 team we only had 1 purchase, I did not even buy a suit for my son and it's great because the whole team has matching warmups and no one was left out. If they HAD to be purchased I can't say that we would have ordered because of the cost associated with them. Tonight when I handed them out, WOW, how great they looked. AREA here we come!!
